Help me! Opinions Please

Is the look of orange and pink colour blocking over? I have the above fabrics (knits), which are exactly the same and now I feel like doing something with them together. Tell me ladies, is it too late, has the boat sailed on this look already?

1. Is this look over?

2. If it isn't over, what would you do with colour blocking a t-shirt? I am thinking of one sleeve a different colour or ............? Share with me.

  1. Ok, I am totally of the opinion that if colourblocking these two colours is floating you out of the mojoitis, you should totally go with it, trends be damned (also, neither of us is living in a fashion capital, are we?).

I can't help but think that one of those twist-front tops would be really fun colour-blocked. But then those may be even more passe than the pink and orange. Trends, I am not on top of them.

    1. I agree with Tanit-Isis, if this is what is singing to you, let it sing on! I don't know if it's "out" but the colours look great together and will make a fun garment!

Do you have a pattern in mind already? My brain has been completely taken over by Cake, but I guess there's other patterns out there (Maybe). :D I'm really not good at figuring out colour blocking beyond the obvious though (i.e. a collar or other built-in individual pattern pieces blocked). Good luck with your project and have fun!

  2. I'm no fashion guru either, but I would find a third color to buffer the orange /pink combo--lime, navy, aqua, chocolate. IDK, I like it bright every now and then.

  3. I love the combination but I live in a decidedly unfashionable place. When I was teaching, I'd ask the girls if something worked or not. They were brutally honest. You could Google this question...

  4. Those colors work no matter what Anna Wintour tells you to wear- maybe an illusion style?

  5. maybe a teered skirt or striped tee?

  6. I like the two colors together, but maybe not full on. Just a top color blocked and the skirt of one of the colors?

  7. I like Carole's suggestion...but I wouldn't worry about the ship having sailed; you'll just be retro!

  8. Love them together...whatever you make try vertical color blocking, more slimming than horizontal and wear some wild earrings in one of the colors.

  9. i love it, but trends are very slow to make their way down to wear i live - we're always like a year behind it seems! i would do a sleeveless or short sleeve dress with an orange yoke, pink for the rest of the dress and then an orange band along the bottom...

    1. Considering where you live and where I live, I favour your opinion of fashion trends far more than my own. Wear that outfit!

  11. Dammit,my dear; if you WANT to make something combining orange and hot pink, then DO IT!! Is this not why we sew, so we can wear whatever our hearts desire? Who cares if it is a trend or not! I expect to see some creatively pieced orange and pink awesomeness popping up here, anon.

  13. Years ago I sewed a pink sundress with a red sash and received many complements on it. It was bold but also very summery and confident. Sunsets have such complementary colors. Best in whatever design you choose. Anything goes now. If you want to colorblock then colorblock.

  14. Hi everyone! Thank you all so much for your comments and opinions. I really appreciate it.

Let it be known that I will be producing a orange and pink top/t-shirt with black accents with nary a horizontal line in sight. As it is likely this will be worn mostly to the gym, it might also have some mesh in there somewhere to assist with keeping me cool.

  15. Go for it. I have a pink and orange shirt from several years ago that I love and just last week I saw a pink and orange dress in a catalog. Can't wait to see your new top.
